My Relationship with The Ten of Wands
I am writing this blog as a record of my journey through Tarot. Eventually it will form the basis of a book & for now resides safely online as I rediscover each card again to refresh my knowledge of these 78 mirrors to the unconscious realm. It amazes me that each card in the sequence I have chosen resonates closely to what is happening in my immediate surroundings. As this morning I prepared to focus my attention on the Ten of Wands I already began to feel the burden of my current life weigh heavily on my shoulders. I have many commitments spread out before me, much like the traditional character on this card who carries ten heavy poles. They obscure his vision to the point where he can only appreciate the responsibilities that he has to focus on. Many people associate with this card when they pull it during a reading with me. I too am guilty of thinking I'll struggle through until I have finished everything, then my life will be perfect, I can finally relax. I walked in the sun today & ended up sat in a favourite restaurant with a new ( to me ! ) vintage Tarot book, a cold beer & some delicious tapas. Even as I sat, when I should have been at my happiest & most relaxed I felt the shadow of what 'still needs to be done' hanging over me. I am seperated from my loved ones on a long overseas journey & today really felt the isolation that the Ten of Wands can cause. I have decided to take a two week holiday. After the next week is over I am going to fly as far away from my situation as is physically possible, stopping over on the way back to sleep for a week in an exotic resort. Sometimes the only way to win against the Ten is to accept that you are pushing your self towards burnout & that the only way you will achieve success is to escape your duties for a while, focus on your health & state of mind, put your life in balance & then return to the challenge with your energy levels restored.
