Tarot The Court Cards The suit of Wands

The Tarot Court Cards

The Court cards can cause confusion when someone begins to interpret the Tarot. Many years ago I abandoned the little white books that come with Tarot decks & decided to rely on intuition to decipher the message my deck was showing me. I list the accepted meanings of the court or ‘people’ cards here. As I have progressed through designing my Tarot deck I have met inspirational people who embody the essence of the card for me. They now represent the court card & as you can see there are still some blanks waiting to be filled !. When a ‘person’ card lands in a questioners spread there are certain standards that apply, like the Pages always represent messengers, though as I said I like to open up my intuition & try & describe the person that my Tarot deck is trying to refer to.

Today I would like to introduce the court cards of the suit of Wands

The Tarot Court cards of The suit of Wands

The Wands

If you are interested in a more detailed explanation of each card please click their name to visit the page on my site.

The Page of Wands

A young creative person has a message of great importance. He is unfamiliar but trustworthy and his knowledge will surprise.

Divinatory Meanings: Dark young man, faithful, a lover, an envoy, a postman. Beside a man, he will bear favorable testimony concerning him. Not to be crossed, especially if followed by the Page of Cups. Has the primary qualities of his suit shown by the flaming wand. He may signify family concerns that need to be dealt with.

Reversed: Anecdotal information, announcements, unsettling news. Possibly indecision and the instability which accompanies it.

The Knight of Wands

Enigmatic & conscious that life is a journey, with a sprouting wand, is not on heading in to battle. He is passing through a desert like landscape. The energy of his horse is symbolic of his energy, and suggests that the questioner is embarking on an exciting phase, with life-changing consequences.

Divinatory Meanings: Departure from the norm, an exciting encounter, flight, movement. A dark young man, friendly & gregarious. Change of residence.

Reversed: Instability, division, interruption, discord.

Queen of Wands

The Wands throughout this suit are always budding, representing potential, as it is a suit of creativity and action. Emotionally and in interpretation, the Queen’s personality corresponds to that of the King, but is more diplomatic & alluring.

Divinatory Meanings: An intuitive woman, a channel, sociable, respectable, loving, honorable. If the card beside her signifies a man, a romantic connection is possible; if a woman, she is of great importance in the life of the questioner. Focused, & extremely powerful in capturing creativity & applying it to a business environment.

Reversed: Economical social interaction, too obliging. Can represent unfounded opposition, jealousy, & gossip or underhand behaviour.

The physical and emotional nature to which this card is attributed is intelligent, enigmatic, respected, aarticulate, impassioned & noble. The King wields a flowering wand, and exhibits a scroll beside his crown. He connects with the symbol of the lion, Leo which blazes in glory between the salamander messengers .

Divinatory Meanings: Erudite man, personable, educated, honest, conscientious. The card always signifies honesty, and involves unexpected information revealed before very long. Reversed: Good prospects, but challenging; a time of honest reviewal of prospects.

Court Cards a general overview

People tend to fall into particular personality types whether they be introvert or extrovert, optimist or pessimist, philanthrope or misanthrope and so on. There are a number of psychological and behavioral tests that exist to determine these personality types. The same principle applies to the reading of tarot cards. The court cards in tarot, represented by Queens, Kings, Pages and Knights, are generally considered to be the most difficult to read. The reason for this is because what the cards represent depending on the querent is somewhat ambiguous. However when understood properly they are one of the most useful cards to signify people in a querent’s life.

The trick to fully understanding court cards is to know what they signify in the context of a given spread. Court cards usually refer to people, whether it be the querent themselves of someone in their life. In general Queens and Kings refer to adults, Knights to youths and Pages to young children. Though the court cards usually refer to people this does not have to be the case. They can also carry symbolic meaning. For example a Knight could represent a ‘trip’ or ‘journey’ given that they ride on horseback. A King may refer to personality traits involving leadership and command.

Another helpful way to put the court cards into context is by using Zodiac signs. If you are uncertain of the meaning of a particular court card then you can look to it’s Zodiac sign. What Zodiac signs the court cards are aligned with will depend on the deck you are using. Using Zodiac signs shouldn’t be a hard and fast rule however, they are merely there to guide you if you are otherwise unsure. If you have a string inclination that the King/Fire is a Taurus but the pack has aligned it with Capricorn then you should go with your own intuition.

Valentine’s Day Love tarot

The Lovers Tarot - Relationship readings

The Lovers - Tarot for relationships

It’s almost here, Valentine’s Day. Unsurprisingly quite a few people having readings are asking the same question, “Will Cupid fire his arrow for me this year ?”. Valentine’s Day has become hugely commercial & is a really big deal for a lot of people that see it as the main chance for attracting a partner, or even better a soulmate. Is this realistic ?.

As I’ve said many times, until you really start to truly love yourself & project your unique, authentic personality you simply won’t attract the love of your life. Think about it if you are ‘acting a part’ or projecting a stylised version of yourself, people are going to be interacting with that ‘other you’ & not your true persona.

When you accept yourself completely & are happy in your own skin, only then is it possible for someone to love you as you, & then the magic can begin !.

Alone for Valentine’s Day ?

Going to be alone on Valentine’s Day ?. Rather than wallow in self pity, treat yourself to a special day, do what makes you happy. If Chocolates, a glass of fizz & a bubble bath is your thing, go for it !, Cook yourself a special meal, you are a special soul & deserve it !.

The first step to finding love is always releasing the past, any previous relationships, & saying OK I’m ready now for the Universe to deliver some love in to my life !. There are many free resources on my sites that reinforce just that. Always popular at this time of year is my virtual Lovers spell. Just for fun what this does is allow you to make your resolution & release it into the ether. If you are looking for love give it a try !

Online Lover’s Spell

My Online Cosmic Order allows you to be more specific about exactly what, or who !, it is that you want to manifest into your world.

Saint Valentine’s day, commonly referred to as simply Valentine’s Day is a holiday occurring on the 14th day of the month of February. Valentine’s Day is a day set aside for lovers to express their love for one another. Lovers who wish to show affection to their significant other on Valentine’s Day usually present their partner with gifts ranging from flowers; red roses and white roses are extremely popular, luxuries like fine chocolate or strawberries  & of course presenting them with a slushy Valentines card !. Anonymous Valentine’s Day cards are of course always good fun !. You can send someone a virtual boost of love with my Lovers Tarot postcard.
Valentine’s Day has been popular since as far back as the middle ages. Valentines gifts were extremely popular back even centuries ago, although written Valentines greetings were not dominant until after the 1400’s. In modern times, Valentine’s Day is extremely popular in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, France and other Western nations. It is common for lovers, friends and even family to share tokens of appreciation with each other on Valentine’s Day. Some people choose different ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day; spending time with loved ones and exchanging gifts are the most common. Going out to a nice restaurant or preparing a special dinner for your significant other is an extremely popular way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Red Roses are thought to signify love and a sense of care for the other person, though they mysteriously become more expensive around this time of year !. Recently, homemade gifts have become extremely popular, the extra thought and effort put into a lovely homemade gift is a great way to truly show your special person that you deeply care for them. Instead of buying a generic card from a corner store, why not create a handmade card with your own unique greeting to your lover ?. Writing love poetry is perhaps the biggest and most thoughtful gesture you can display on Valentine’s Day. The aim is to truly make your Valentine’s Day meaningful to you and those you are sharing your love with, because it is a special day and a memorable way to show gestures of love to those that you care about. Remember though when your lover tells you that you should not waste your money on Valentine’s gifts, you can be sure they don’t mean it !.

Wherever you are & whoever you are with, I wish you a joyful Valentine’s Day !..

Lucky Omens – Black Cats

Lucky Omens

lucky black cat

O'Mara tarot black cat

Many people around the world believe in lucky omens even if they wouldn’t necessarily describe themselves as superstitious. There are certain lucky and unlucky omens that are so prevalent in society that most people believe and adhere to them to some extent. For example most people would avoid walking under a ladder if they have chance, even though they may not really believe it will bring them bad luck. Belief in omens is a subconscious belief for most people, it has been part of human culture for centuries and continues to be passed down through the generations.

One of the more interesting omens are black cats. Whether you believe black cats to be a sign of luck or misfortune will usually depend on where on the globe you live. In the UK and Japan to come across a black cat is considered a good omen. Whilst if you live in the US and many other European countries it is considered a bad sign. Whilst a cat might seem like a strange choice for an omen it is somewhat understandable. Cats have lived alongside human beings for millennia and were worshipped in ancient Egypt. They were also considered sacred by Romans.

Some other popular omens include -

• Breaking a Mirror – this is considered to be a very omen and in many cultures is said to bring you 7 years worth of bad luck
• Friday 13th – Many people consider this to be an unlucky day on the calendar where they are more prone to misfortune
• Finding a Horseshoe – This is considered to be one of the luckiest symbols bringing good fortune to whomever finds it
• Spilt Salt – Spilling salt is considered a bad sign so to reverse this many people will toss the spilt salt over their left shoulder.
• Knocking on Wood – Many people knock on wood to bring them luck or avoid misfortune in a certain situation. This dates back to a time when certain cultures believed God lived in trees.

Finding love in 2012

The Lovers

The Lovers - Children of the Voice Divine, Oracles of the Mighty Gods

Last night I had the joy of watching a friend of mine falling in love. A lot of people ask me “Why can’t I find the right person / when will I meet my soulmate”, it was no different with this lady. As I watched her flirting like a teenager, I felt secretly pleased, the last time I gave her a reading The Lovers indeed featured, however the primary message was that until she really began to love herself for the fabulous woman she is, and stopped looking for the perfect person she had created in her mind, she would still be searching for love.

Finding love in 2012, is this your year ?

Valentines Day is approaching, looking for love in 2012, is it possible, Is this your year?

If you’re like most people the New Year brings a time when we try and revaluate ourselves our desires & our goals.  We look at our weight, our jobs, our finances and many times our relationships, or lack of one !.  We usually sit down and make a plan to change what we don’t like and build on what we do.  For many single people finding someone to share their life with or spend time with is at the top of their New Year resolutions. Life is a journey that is better travelled when you can share your successes and your failures with someone you love.  Is this the year you’ll find love?  How important is finding a partner to you?  2012 could very well be the year you find love if you plan correctly.  Here are some suggestions to increase your odds of success.

Take the initiative

Most of us have many responsibilities we must allocate time for or they don’t get done.  Work must be taken care of.  Groceries must be purchased.  Dishes and laundry must be washed.  The list goes on and on.  All our responsibilities we make time for.  We set aside time and put energy into them so they are sure to be completed.  The same goes for finding a companion. You must make time to send out vibes that you are looking for love. You must make time to socialise and interact with real people.  Sitting on the couch and waiting for Mr. or Ms. Right to stumble through your front door is not going to find you a life companion. If you’re serious about finding someone special.  Get off the couch, off Facebook and go to singles events.  Go to every party you’re invited to, attend meet-ups, happy hours and functions where real people interact. If you have an interest join a club where you can meet like minded people. Most of all though, accept that you are a unique soul, a wonderful individual & you deserve to be loved !.

Take Some Chances, Change your Mindset

So you’ve decided to get serious about attracting someone special.  You’ve taken initiative, you’ve dedicated time with real people and now you need to take a few risks. I’m not talking about being foolish and making a date, with a stranger, for the first time in a dark alley.  Taking risks doesn’t mean jeopardising your values or safety.  What I’m talking about is visualising yourself in an exciting new relationship. If you have a fixed idea and know exactly how your ideal mate looks or how he / she will behave, I’m afraid you are probably set to be disappointed.  Take a little risk, ask the universe to deliver a new partner and you might be pleasantly surprised. Perhaps date someone a  little older, maybe take a chance with someone a bit younger than your ideal. Dating should be a fun time and a time for trying new things.  Break the mould and see that maybe what you’ve been searching for isn’t really what you want after all.

Put Yourself in a Position for Success

If you’re sitting in front of a television or computer waiting for your dream guy / girl to walk through the door, you’ve pretty much set yourself up for failure and another year of wondering when love will arrive.

Understand people that are successful at dating are generally successful are not luckier, prettier or smarter than you.  They just put themselves in better circumstances, increasing their odds favourably, to find and court the type of person that could be that someone special.  2012 could very well be the year you find love if you take the initiative, dedicate your wish to the universe, take a few chances and put yourself in a position for success.

If you are looking for love, I seriously hope Cupid comes looking for you very soon. I am off for lunch with my partner of 10 years, we are still incredibly happy & yes, they are nothing like my imagined ‘type’ …

Imbolc Reconnecting to the Universe

The Fool Tarot Card

The Fool - Potential

I woke this morning after an uneasy sleep feeling very slightly anxious. I turned my daily affirmation card & saw myself & dog Max on my familiar Fool card. The Fool generally indicates new beginnings, potential with an underlying message of ignoring the myriad distractions, reconnecting to your true purpose. I went for a walk on this beautiful crisp morning & made a conscious decision to reconnect to the earth, as much as is possible in the hustle & bustle of Shepherd’s Bush. After speaking to some friends I realised that we are approaching the half way point between Winter & Spring, a time when the earth begins to warm & come back to life. I realised that I ALWAYS feel like this at this time of year & remember talking about it to my Irish family who explained that this period has been celebrated in Irish folklore since the middle ages. The NeoPagan faith also recognises this time of year by celebrating Imbolc which occurs at the beginning of February.

Imbolc, (pronounced “IM-bulk”), is also referred to by the Druids as Oimealg (“IM-mol’g), the festival of lactating sheep.  Oimealg was created from the Gaelic word “oimelc” which translates to “ewe’s milk”. The period when pregnant ewes would start to lactate understanding new life is forming. Imbolc is among the four historic Celtic Holy Days.  It is considered one of the Sabbats or Holy Days of religious witchcraft.  Imbolc is also considered as I mentioned previously  in the 8 Holy Days of Neo-Paganism.

Imbolc is among the list of cornerstones on the Celtic calendar.  It is considered among the four “cross-quarters” traditionally commemorated as Sabbats in pagan cultures.  Imbolc is the only traditional Celtic celebration explicitly identified with a female deity.  It stands out as the day the Celtic Warrior Cailleach collects her fire wood for the remainder of the winter months. Imbolc is among the list of four key celebrations of the Celtic calendar, observed either at the beginning of February or around the earliest indications of spring. Imbolc signifies the midway point of the darker portion of the year.  It is furthermore the first fertility holiday on the Wiccan liturgical calendar.

Imbolc signifies a period from the hearth fire as well as thawing and stirring of earth’s waters melting from the Sun. It also honors Brigit the three-fold goddess associated with fire, poetry and healing.  Wiccans observe an alternative of Imbolc as one of four “fire festivals” which comprises half of the eight holidays on the Wheel of the Year. With the Christian calendar, this unique event was altered and renamed Candlemas.  Christians light candles to reflect upon the purification of the Virgin Mary.  Imbolc and Brigid are additionally believed to have a link with the Roman tales surrounding the celebration of Lupercalia as well as the Egyptian Feast of the Nut, they are both held on February 2.  In the United States and Canada most likely you know Imbolc as Groundhog’s Day (February 2) when a groundhog emerges from his burrow to forecast whether winter will be for 6 more weeks or whether spring is just around the corner.  Even though the practices and names for this celebration are different, the underlying messages are identical; the desire and anticipation of spring.

Imbolc is also recognized as Brigid’s (pronounced BREED) Day. Brigid is the triple Goddess in her new role as maiden departing the crone associated with winter behind. It is also a period when growers as well as fishermen rely on continuous improvement in the weather conditions. Imbolc marks the halfway period between the Winter solstice and the Vernal Equinox; a time when hope starts to stir accompanied by a yearning for the return of spring. It is commonly a celebration of newness; the promise of fertility, new life and fresh hope. In many instances it’s marked by the lighting of candles.  Food dishes offered at Imbolc festivals are, not surprisingly, milk along with other dairy products.  Other foods frequently served at Imbolc gatherings are tender baby vegetables and sprouts.

Imbolc is sometimes regarded as a Sabbat of fertility, inspiration, healing and purification. It may also be a white time, burning with inspiration and commitment or cooling with healing and purification. Purification clears the way for fresh, new life when spring begins Imbolc is an excellent time for self-purification.  It may also be regarded as a time of revitalization and fresh starts. As a result Imbolc is a great occasion to release creative juices and permit them to flow through poetry, sculpture, painting or possibly anything signifying a facet of nature that may be most sacred to you.  It is a wonderful chance to think about your objectives and resources; it’s an opportunity to clarify one’s aim and devote one’s self to the upcoming year.  Imbolc is best reserved for commemorating and evaluating your connection with the Universe and Mother Earth.

Take a moment this Spring to really connect & consider how you want your year to unfold.

As always, I hope you manifest everything you desire
