The Nine of Pentacles - Appearance

The Nine of Pentacles sees the nine golden coins suspended in front of a sulphorous sky. A vertical golden key appears to reveal that the seeker is now truly ready to unlock the power of confidence in themselves. They can now realise that they have developed all of the necessary skills to realise the life they desire and indeed deserve. The white flowers behind the key indicate that the seeker has somehow been blocked around money, they must now realise that they deserve any financial advancement. The whiteness of the flowers emphasise that abundance is possible through honest work & will be enhanced by the fact that the work will be truly satisfying to complete.
The vineyard indicates that now, the spoils of many years of hard work are hanging low now, ripe for the picking. The large house high on the hill in the distance is another symbol of all that is achievable now. . The falcon who stares at the viwer indicates that now the seeker has a birds eye view of how their life is developing. After the financial elements are stabilised, spiritual & intellectual development follows naturally.      


The Nine of Pentacles Tarot Card - Interpretation

The meaning of this card is that we must investigate our relationship with money. Often this card appears when I perform readings for people who seriously undervalue themselves & their worth. The message of the Nine is that to live the life of your dreams you must accept that you will need to make money. Many people are locked in to a ‘poverty acceptance mindset’ that keeps them at a certain level. It is as if they are programmed to accept only a certain amount of abundance in to their lives, yes it is true that money cannot buy happiness, though it can certainly help many situations. I believe as long as you are providing value to the world & not harming anyone, able to sleep peacefully at night, then any financial gain is indeed deserved. When this card appears the questioner needs to be told that this is a true chance for them to escape their daily grind. If they are unhappily trapped on the treadmill of the 9 to 5, the Nine tells them that now is the time to pursue the career for which they know they were destined & would enjoy. For me, obviously, it is the Tarot. I am never happier than when interacting with my cards & find giving readings to truly interested questioners, though exhausting, provides me with my greatest satisfaction. A memory of a favourite garden can confidently be mentioned around the Nine of Pentacles. The scent of flowers & a distinctive perfume connected to a maternal figure. A hobby forgotten may be revisited & anything to do with the arts or ‘highbrow’ activities like theatre, opera, or classical concerts has occasionally appeared to me through this card. I LOVE seeing the Nine turn up in a spread as it symbolises that the sustained work the seeker has undoubtedly put in is almost certain to now pay off. The calm Falcon shows that the unpredictability of life has been tamed & now the questioner can begin to enjoy their existence on their own terms. Often this indicates that a germ of an idea will turn in to a successful business that allows the seeker to generate abundance on their own merits. Often from within their own home. My relationship with the Nine endorses that completely. Many people ask me if I am scared by The Tarot, or if I am in some way held in the spell of their dark powers ...

In answer to your questions ....

I had no choice, The Tarot claimed me over a quarter of a century ago.

When I was a boy productions such as Dr Terror's House of Horrors & Tales Of The Unexpected fed the belief that the Tarot was ' The Devil's Picturebook ' . In fact at one of my very first Tarot reading engagements, I was verbally attacked by an outraged Christian guest at the party where I was reading.

In what I consider to be the definitive Tarot work :

he states :

"To reiterate ( The Tarot should not ) be used for vulgar fortune telling, or to amuse a party of friends. If you yield to the temptation so to abuse this information, you will pay for it in the loss of all power of true divination, and probably in the loss of ability to control the higher rates of psychic vibration. Thus the ultimate result of abuse of this divinatory practice will be to make you more negative, more the slave of circumstance, more liable to evil of every kind ".

I can assure you that I do not use the Tarot lightly, however I believe the cards only release power within the reader or querent as opposed to having any inherent power of their own. The Tarot is in fact only a deck of painted cards, although they can also be the mirrors of your subconscious mind.

I have for many years used the Tarot as a means of meditation. I have entered the realm of the cards many times. The Tarot has been the springboard for much deeper esoteric study. The meaning of this card is satisfaction derived from persistence & hard work. We tend to forget the pain of hard work when the final result is worth all of the hard effort. This card really embodies that practice makes perfect, think now, what is your long term goal ?, do you have the application necessary to bring those long held dreams to reality ?. Though certain people seem to have success fall in to their laps, in fact, usually if you scratch below the surface, an awful lot of hard work has gone on 'behind the scenes'. This card symbolises that a relatively new path of application comes to highly successful fruition. Historically this image refers to reaping a large fortune, in fact it applies to gaining the benefit from past endeavours. When this card appears to you, you have been patient, you have persevered and tangible results of your efforts are within your reach. The Seven warns not to rest on your laurels, it is a card that after the initial rush of satisfaction tells you to focus your energies, to be conscious that every effort expended must work towards your final desire. The Seven of Pentacles has an underlying message that when we work very hard towards our targets we often forget to enjoy the experience, we must reconnect with her initial desire in order to visualise why we set out on this path. When the questioner chooses the Seven of Pentacles I tell them to relax they have achieved what they set out for, and now it is time to look back and reflect, to learn the lessons that have been afforded them.  When the seven appears I know that choices are to be made, patience will be necessary and I need to fully commit myself to the task at hand. However with application, success is almost certainly guaranteed, the flipside of this card is that often people abandon projects just before they reach fruition. I am guilty of this on several occasions and have neglected many things, including this blog, as I was distracted by other things that momentarily seemed more important. As I approached the midpoint of my revisited journey down the Royal Road of tarot, I am filled with excitement as so many more layers of this most fascinating path are revealed. As I turned the Seven to make this entry  the negative side of my subconscious badgered me into questioning whether I wanted to continue or fly off in a completely new direction. I have done this many times in my life and know that if I continue, and apply myself fully, the satisfaction that will reward me will far outweigh any new projects that pushed themselves to the front of my consciousness. I know the Seven tells me not to be complacent, to be pleased with the effort that I have applied, to make a mental note of any new directions I would like to travel in my studies, and essentially to take stock of where my efforts are leading. The Seven is interrupting practical work that I need to apply to my next really exciting online reading that delves deeper into the fascinating connections of the Tree of Life. In a way I know that this card is telling me to slow down and weigh up my options, perhaps I need to consider how I want my next major project to develop. The time of deliberation and retrospection with the Seven will lead undoubtedly to an exciting new project that will benefit from more careful consideration.

 When the six appears we need to take careful stock of our resources. The essence of this card is sharing and generosity, though it is essentially about friendship. The Scales in the background of the image indicate business, loans or questions of financial security. When the six appears we realise that the problems of the five are behind us, we are set to experience good fortune and success. The hand dispensing coins in the sky indicates that financial gain may arise from unexpected sources. This card tells us that it is essential we balance material concerns with spirituality and should be ready to share our success with those around us. In a reading this card always signifies that things are destined to go well, there is a hint of karma in this card that shows what we sow we will certainly reap. This card often appears when someone is about to repay a debt, giving them increased financial freedom. As with all Pentacles of course it is very important when success or wealth comes our way to enjoy it. When this card appears, enjoy the moment but also intelligently plan for your financial future.

 When the six appears to me I know that my immediate financial future is well starred. I also know, and throughout my life am guilty of, I will be enjoying the moment with no cares as to what will happen in the future. The early warning of the six of Pentacles is to beware of people taking advantage, and of being overly extravagant. Having said that though, this six is all about generosity, and sharing without concern for what we will receive in return. The ultimate meaning of this card is a large unexpected windfall, as I prepared this entry on the blog I was told by an acquaintance of share options that I have completely neglected that should shortly come to fruition, this is exactly the sort of nice surprise that the six can bestow. Every time the six appears in my reading I know that I will be able to share my resources, be able to help friends who are slightly less off presently than myself. As I have said before a windfall or unexpected gift also often appears with this six. This card when it appears in a business spread is especially powerful, you may be able to receive financial help for a business venture through unexpected sources, again this applies now in my life as I prepare to open an online store. Whenever I turn over the six I feel a great surge of happiness as I know that I no longer, at the present time, need to worry about financial security and can focus on other aspects of my life.

The Five of Pentacles Tarot Card - Interpretation

 When this card appears in reading we know that we are financially, spiritually or emotionally bankrupt. If financial problems are at the root of this situation, this is the least of our worries as we can always acquire more money and recover from financial loss. Worry is inherent to the meaning of this card and really is a useless emotion, the bright church windows in the distance show us that we need to reach inside ourselves, release negativity and allow hope to guide us forward. The questioner is definitely facing some form of turmoil, be it through relationship problems or a loss of faith in their ability, they truly feel that they have lost their direction. The questioner needs to reunite with their inner faith, they must realise that as in the previous card their current situation and external realities all stem from their internal dialogue. Self-confidence needs to be developed, if we allow ourselves to wallow in the feelings of loss associated with this card we are in danger of leading ourselves down a very long dark path. The message of this card is to take control of yourself, surprisingly, help often appears from unexpected quarters with the Five. The secondary meaning of this card is not to neglect the feelings of others. Often when the five arrives we become so wrapped up in a our own problems that we neglect our relationships and the needs of those around us, compounding the anxiety. This card is certainly an unsettling omen, though the light shining from the church windows indicates that after a period of struggle, our cloud will probably have a silver lining. Finally, the message of the Five it is to keep things in perspective, are things truly as bad as they seem or are they worse in your mind than they are in the real world ?

There is no getting away from it, this is one of my least favourite cards in the deck, all I hope for when I see a questioner drawn this card from my pack, or if it appears on my own reading, is that it relates to a period that is either mercifully shortlived or is already in the past. The Five embodies negativity and worry,  quite often when this card appears you are actually unable to see the reality of your current situation. If I draw the Five and I can relate it to a certain area of my life I always make sure I get a second opinion,  the Five always tells you to look at your life from the perspective of another. As soon as I draw the Five I know that I cannot dwell on what has gone wrong, I need to take responsibility and find the fastest initiative to pull me from this unpleasant time.  Instability in the Five corresponds to the unstable element mercury, this tells that things are not permanent by any means, and that rapid change for the better is just as likely to occur. When I draw the five I know that I undoubtedly face a challenge, I cannot, however, allow my circumstance to get the better of me.

The Four of Pentacles Tarot Card - Interpretation

The meaning of this card is that after certain material success, the questioner is unwilling to let go past successes and strive for improvement. The Four warns of becoming obsessed with material gain at the expense of everything else. Is the questioner concerned with keeping up with the Joneses, with acquiring the latest gadgets, has he lost sight of the true meaning of his existence ?. This card warns that true creativity can not occur if too much focus is placed on material possessions. Material things surely make us feel secure but to strive for this security hinders our creative process. The Four warns against becoming too greedy and withholding money, favours or even our feelings. When we become successful the problem we face is complacency, what would happen if success disappeared tomorrow. As with all cards in this suit we must strive to reach above and never stop moving forward to develop our lives.  Whenever the Four appears challenge yourself, do not think " How can I possibly afford to follow my dreams?", the old adage that what ever you giveaway comes back twofold has never applied to another card more than the Four of Pentacles. Sometimes it is good to start again from scratch, to give things away, to develop a more flexible financial outlook. When we have fear of letting go we find that we become hemmed in by material circumstance.

 When the four appears in my reading, I know that my creativity will be stifled by concerns as to how I can meet my commitments. Many times in my life I have neglected to follow my dreams for fear of financial ruin. I needed to develop a prosperous outlook, I needed to believe that wherever my life led me, I would be able to support myself and those that are important to me. On several occasions this has led to me moving abroad for extended periods of time. Every time that this has occurred, the longing for my loved ones was barely balanced by the financial gain. Even as I write this blog I am on an extended journey overseas. I am fortunate that my loved ones understand that I need time in isolation to develop my site and study more of the ageless wisdom of Tarot that will lead me to my ultimate goal. I know that I'm not far away from turning my relationship with the Tarot into a career that can support me full-time, The Four of Pentacles warns me not to become obsessed with the money necessary to achieve this success. The Four of Pentacles tells me to develop my capabilities, look to the long-term picture and build the foundations for the life I know that I can achieve. Release the Pentacle from your grasp and accept that the universe will provide for you, that is the lesson of the Four of Pentacles.

The Three of Pentacles, this card always appears to me when I know that I need to apply myself and take myself out of my comfort zone. In my life I have been constantly striving to become a better version of myself, the Three of Pentacles reminds me that sometimes I should accept the praise of others and lower my perfectionist ideals. This card appears when I've completed the spade work necessary on my current project and I can begin to enjoy myself, keeping the energy alive, gaining satisfaction from what I have achieved and accepting that my application is set to pay off. Being a volatile Aries starting anything is always a challenge to me as I want to fast forward to completion. It has taken many years to me to be able to finish a project without abandoning it halfway through. This blog, which is my personal journey through Tarot, is testament to that. I started and stopped this blog many times but now my commitment to is 100%, I now know that by re-entering the Tarot landscape I will be introduced to the knowledge necessary to take my study to the next level. When the three appears to me, I'm over the worst, much is left to be done but the ground work has been achieved and the project shows great promise.

The Two of Pentacles Tarot Card - Interpretation

The meaning of this card is that we must keep our heads and keep our eye on the ball in challenging situations. The never-ending juggling of the Pentacle symbols indicate that we are able to balance all aspects of our life, keep all our irons in the fire and keep our eye on the ball. When this card appears we must be able to respond to change in a positive fashion, at the same time we must ensure that all our commitments are met. Often after the promise of new business ventures in the ace, the two appears to tell us that we do in fact have the energy to take on new commitments and challenges. The turbulent sea and the crashing foaming waves remind us that life is never an easy ride, we must remain positive and be able to accept anything that is thrown our way. The symbol for Infinity on this card reminds us that all aspects of our life must be honoured, business commitments relationships social life and friends must all be fitted into our busy schedules in order to live a healthy balanced existence. The underlying reference in the two of Pentacles is that though things are set to fluctuate in our lives if we draw on our resources balance can be maintained. When the two of Pentacles appears to me in a reading, I'm always tempted to laugh as it is no coincidence that I have several projects on the go at any one time. I then realise that I desperately need to balance my material life, my spiritual life and my social commitments. I have been known to become so absorbed in a project that nothing else really matters. Like many creative people eating, drinking and sleeping can often take on secondary importance to an exciting new project. Also if the two appears in my spread I know that I'm focusing too much on the creative, enjoyable side of my latest venture, I need to consider the underlying practical, financial and business related elements as well. The two always says to me if I can keep focused, then it is worth my while to take a chance, the sea behind this card may be turbulent, but when is life ever truly plain sailing?. The skill of the juggler featured in this card reminds me that though there is a great deal of activity and I may be taking on several simultaneous new challenges, as long as I keep my eye on the Pentacles in the air then success is assured.

The flagship card of the Pentacles suit represents enterprise that can lead to freedom through financial security. When this card appears in a reading enterprises or business propositions are guaranteed success. The Gardens symbolise there is a journey that needs to be made before all rewards can be reached before the full power of the Pentacles suit is realised. The archway that leads to a barren mountain-scape warns that this journey is not without risk. The Ace card is linked with the ego, the relationship between struggle for material gain crossing over into greed or legitimate worldly success that frees us from the daily existence needs to be considered. When the Ace appears in my reading I know that I can expect to turn around in my situation. When I was working I knew that I could expect a discussion that would leave me room to renegotiate salary or promotion. When I see the ace hand emerging from the clouds I know that something I have dreamed of is going to become reality, it's going to be a concrete part of my life in the near future.This is one of my favourite cards as I know that an idea that has arisen, maybe in my sleep will soon have a place in the real world. In fact as I drew the card to post this entry I knew an opportunity was not far away. In fact within the hour a business idea that had been forming became closer, a long awaited email gave me the contact I needed to finalise an exciting development that has been a long held dream.

The King of Cups Tarot Card - Interpretation

The King is immensely creative, though he usually applies his creativity in an ordered, scientific fashion. He may well indeed have a scientific connection and though he is the head of the suit of emotions, he is the most analytical court member. The King finds displays of emotions a challenge & always remains in charge of his feelings, giving an air of detached aloofness. The small fish is a direct confrontation to his sensibilities indicating the King will be faced with something that forces him to directly face his emotions. This card often has a serious message, I have seen many times that if The King of Cups appears to a questioner he is making them confront unexpected mood swings where they feel helpless or trapped with no obvious cause. The message here is there is an underlying cause, the questioner just has to be ready to accept it. I recently gave a reading for someone who had accepted a new job that involved extensive travel, they loved the job and package, the prospects seemed great, the crunch was they had serious travel sickness that was going to be a major hurdle. They had ' forgotten ' that in the course of the interview, thank fully I have since found out, a combination of hypnosis & travel sickness medication has made this aspect of the job bearable, if not yet completely enjoyable. The galleon pictured warns that if internal emotions or underlying restrictions are ignored, eventually they will break free & may prove difficult to bring under control.

My Relationship with The King of Cups

When the King appears to me personally I know that I have turned my back on my true feelings or compartmentalised something that is only going to resurface in a worse form if I don't face it head on. Quite often the King warns against feeling responsible for something that is really not your fault, something over which you have no direct control. I live at present in the middle east as I am researching aspects of the culture for part of my site & to include in the book that has been in development for ever. I completely accept that the culture is far removed from my own & find that fascinating and exciting, I find though that visiting friends may not see it as such. The first problem is getting them here, the airlines tend to be unreliable to say the least & delays of several hours are usual & accepted. If the King appears I know that I should not feel responsible for friends who have had a challenging journey to come & visit me, it is their choice & they either accept the difficulties or not, I can't do it for them. The King always says to me that if emotions are running high I need to identify why this is & deal with it. Is it something tangible that I can change?, or is it just my programmed reaction to something that is really not going to be worth my while becoming agitated about. A special mention goes to the model for my King, Mike. He has passed on to the next life, though while he was here, he was an inspirational master of science who would be seen riding his trusty bike in all weathers for many miles a day as it enabled him to process whatever fascinating project he was applying himself too. The King has a calm exterior that hides an extraordinary passion for life.

A smiling Queen is framed by sea life. A closed ornate cup keeps her just out of your reach. In the distance you hear the waves lapping the seashore.

The Queen of Cups Tarot Card - Interpretation :

The Queen of Cups is queen of the suit of emotion, this is indicated by her Cup, the only closed vessel in the suit. This symbolises that the Queen is conscious of her emotions but prefers to keep them hidden. This Queen is enigmatic and attractive, she has a strange draw on people. It takes a long time before the Queen allows anyone in to her court & they have to prove themselves as worthy friends or companions before this possibility is considered. The merbabys show that she is indeed Queen of the water and also that she has the strange attraction of the mermaid's siren song, so feared by sailors. Once her powers have overwhelmed you rationality will desert you, so be careful that you are not being seduced when the Queen appears in your reading. The Queen warns that you should be careful not to self absorbed at this time, whether you like it or not you must listen to the advice of those around you. The Queen, if she appears to me tells me to take a deep breath before acting on my instincts. The Queen is aware of how her emotions can taint her view and is telling me I need to learn this message and assess the scenario from a disassociated point of view. I also know when this card appears to be careful not to be drawn in by promises through whatever medium they arise. I recently gave a reading to a young woman who thought that her main concern was her relationship, in fact it transpired, she had far more pressing issues. When the Queen appeared I asked her if she had been drawn in recently, after some thought she reluctantly mentioned that she had been paying a monthly service to a psychic defence company who had contacted her via the internet. It turned out that she regularly responded to 'unmissable' offers that appeared in her inbox and trusted implicitly anyone who had managed to get her personal email address. The message here is look at situations like this as is you were reading about them happening to someone else, the lady agreed that this was questionable to say the least & I hope that she has cancelled her order ... The other message of the Queen is that she keeps a very firm hold on her emotions, we will see later that this applies even more in the case of the King, for now though, where could you benefit from responding in a less emotional manner ?

The Knight of Cups Tarot Card - Interpretation :

The Knight of Cups is the least dynamic but by no means least enigmatic of the Four Knights. HIs white horse shows deference with it's bowed head & is representative of the co-operative, measured atmosphere of this card. The river glimpsed in the background indicates the divide between dreams & reality that needs to be heeded at this time. We first experienced this in the 7 of Cups that warned us against drifting off in to daydreams & losing a grip on our purpose. This applies to the Knight, though he makes steady progress, we must be sure that he is progressing at a rate that will bring him to the desired destination. Spirituality is inherent in this card as with all cups and is represented here by the winged helmet. As artistic as his predecessor the Page the Knight is fastidious about details to the point that actually hinders progression of many projects.

When the Knight communicates with me through a spread, I know to look at the broader brushstrokes before becoming obsessed with details. The ornate cup featured on this card gains more spiritual significance the higher we progress through the pack & you can see that celestial power is being drawn from the Cup on this card. The Knight tells me it is imperative to be trustworthy & honest at this time, if the Knight represents an individual in my spread then I know to watch for a quiet but dedicated ally. As an event the Knight stands for proposals or challenges to be faced that I know will take time to mature to their full potential but will eventually provide great satisfaction.

The Page of Cups Tarot Card - Interpretation :

The Fish on this card is a dual symbol of creativity & emotional intelligence. The creativity needs to be channelled if it is to be of benefit to the questioner. Often extremely creative individuals are incapable of using their talents to their advantage. My Page is a perfect example of this, he is represented by a dear friend of mine who is no longer with us. Were he to be I'm sure he would agree that although he was a fantastically talented designer and illustrator he simply could not  turn his ability in to any product that could support him. He was endlessly scribbling fantastic ideas, unfortunately he never found a commercial outlet for his artistic endeavors. The red tulips can symbolise perfect true love is available to the questioner if they can only learn to keep their emotions in check, any damaging traits, such as a jealous nature need to be addressed before the message from the Page is development of relationships. The very basis of the Cups suit is the flow of water representing the emotions, the colours of this card combined with the gently rolling clouds tell us that when The Page appears we must be careful to keep our emotions in check as they may overwhelm our rational decision making process, we must be careful not to let our heart lead our head. The secondary meaning of the fish is that we are to expect news from an unexpected source, in this card the fish is passing on information that will ultimately be of our benefit if we are prepared to listen attentively. As the fish emerges we can expect a burst of creativity to course through our life, a new project will inspire us. If the Page in the spread appears to you as a real person then they will be an inspirational young energetic person who sparks off of you to fire your enthusiasm. The Page indicates a person who is extremely sensitive, I have known the page on several occasions to represent someone who was developing psychic abilities, especially clairaudience, the ability to hear outside of the normal range or even from paranormal sources. I have mentioned this to several questioners who confirmed this by saying " Oh yes I heard that just as i was waking " as if this is the most normal thing in the world. The Page of Cups when he appears to me always has a hidden message. I try hard to listen for what the fish is trying to intimate. Quite often The Page will tell me to focus on the creative aspect of a project & enlist the help of someone more suited to the other details that need attention, be that legal, financial business or any other  area that admittedly is not my strong point. If the Page appears to me in a reading for someone else then I am aware that this person is, or has dealings with someone who though harmless, is subject to flights of fancy. The Page is endlessly creative but finds it difficult to exist in the real world. Finally if the Page appears to me then I know that whatever project is facing me is going to take longer than anticipated & I need to let it run it's course as well as accept opinions from anyone who is willing to give them. My Relationship with The Nine of Cups

Before they ever became live on my site my wishing well & crystal ball were online as I used them to remind myself of where I wanted this experiment to lead. Also in that first folder was a page that automatically repeated a selected mantra over & over, whether it was Om mane padme hum or Nam myoho renge kyo I used these loops to focus my attention before I would make a wish or consult the crystal. In those days the wish was always the same, "What do I need to learn to make me truly happy ?". The answer was always look inside or open your mind. I spent many years chasing gold cards or the next ultimate experience. Now I truly accept that happiness can only come from within.
The chakras on this card represent my interest in many different cultures & how they seek to attain happiness. I have completed many courses, from buddhist chanting to hypnosis, ashtanga yoga & chakra visualisation. I found help from all of them & still use elements from all of these different doctrines daily to achieve emotional tranquility. It is up to you to search for any method that enables you to be comfortable in your own skin, to release the stress of the daily grind.
